When the Lord brings a potential pioneer to your attention, much prayer and consideration is required when approving a leader to direct a local campus ministry. The flowchart gives an overview of the process. This flow chart reflects someone who has not completed a CMIT program, which is a bit more complicated scenario but remains similar to for one who has been trained through a CMIT.

2. Reference Checks and Background Checks

Director Approval Process Manual
The process of recruiting or responding to interest can be tricky. It’s easy in the excitement to offer a position to someone before you’ve walked through your own system. A key step in turning the conversations from “wouldn’t it be great” to “let’s see if this is the right time” begins by asking a potential director to apply for the position. The process becomes clear and expresses the significance of the role and process. Use the link below to begin the formal process, the application asks for references to enable the next steps in the process.
Director Application
Not all situations will be with potential full time missionaries but be a volunteer or church staff focusing on a campus. Use the abbreviate application to formalize the process.[button target=”blank” link=”http://xanetwork.org/volunteer/” size=”small” align=”left”]Volunteer Application[/button][margin30]
Checking References
An easily overlooked step in the process. Picking up the phone and connecting with others who have worked with and for a given leader will bring insight that is crucial in the approval process. The “Director Approval Manual” has forms and phone scripts to use when talking to references.
Ridley Behavioral Interview
Is the applicant ready to pioneer or direct a ministry? That’s a hard question to answer just through interviews and a few reference forms. Chi Alpha has established the Ridley Behavioral Interview as our required assessment tool in evaluating all missionary pioneers and directors. The Ridley Behavioral Interview will review a candidates pattern in leadership critical for both pioneering and directing vibrant chapters of Chi Alpha. The Interview can easily be done over video conference and takes about two weeks to receive the report. Once you have an application in hand, and you have checked the first couple references then schedule the Ridley Behavioral Interview by contacting Delyn Cole at dacole@ag.org.
Chi Alpha Committee & Conditions for Approval
Wisdom has taught us never to make a crucial decision alone! A district committee, even if temporary, is invaluable in making the final decision. The committee should include other XA director(s), a district leader, and the Area Director. Like most jobs, quality leaders are trained for their new tasks. As you have gone through the process there will be strengths and weaknesses that have surfaced, include a plan to address these in the approval process. The Pioneering Boot Camp and a certified Coach are expected for all pioneers.
